“Build theological depth. Develop ministry wisdom. Plant churches that last.
Plant Churches That Faithfully Proclaim Christ and Endure for Generations”
The need for healthy, gospel-centered churches has never been greater. Yet church planting requires more than vision, passion, or entrepreneurial skill – it requires deep theological conviction, pastoral wisdom, and faithful dependence upon God.
Metro Atlanta Seminary’s Church Planting Concentration, led by Dr. Robert Kim, is designed to equip students to plant churches that are rooted in Scripture, grounded in sound ecclesiology, and committed to long-term kingdom fruitfulness.
Whether you are sensing a call to church planting, preparing for future ministry, or already serving in a church-planting context, this concentration provides theological formation and practical preparation for faithful ministry.
This concentration is designed for:
- Aspiring church planters
- Pastors preparing for future church planting opportunities
- Ministry leaders serving on church-plant teams
- Elders and ministry leaders seeking deeper missional formation
- Students pursuing long-term pastoral ministry
Why Church Planting?
Church planting is not merely about launching organizations – it is about participating in Christ’s mission of building His Church.
Our approach to church planting emphasizes:
- A robust theology of mission rooted in Scripture
- The centrality of Christ-centered preaching and discipleship
- Healthy ecclesiology and covenant community
- Faithful contextualization without theological compromise
- Sustainable ministry practices for long-term fruitfulness
- Partnership with churches, denominations, and ministry networks
We believe healthy churches are planted by healthy leaders – and healthy leaders are shaped through theological formation, mentoring, and ministry experience.
Through four focused courses (four total academic credit hours), students will develop both theological foundations and practical competencies for church planting.
Course 1: The Call to Church Planting
Explore the biblical theology of mission, assess calling and gifting, and examine the role of God’s sovereignty in church planting.
Course 2: The Church God Builds
Develop a robust understanding of biblical ecclesiology and examine what constitutes a healthy church.
Course 3: Context, Culture & Gospel
Learn how to understand communities biblically and engage culture faithfully without compromising the gospel.
Course 4: Planting That Lasts
Move from vision to implementation through practical church-planting strategy.
Church planting cannot be learned through theory alone. Students in this concentration are encouraged to integrate theological study with real ministry experience, mentorship, and practical ministry application.
Our goal is not simply to help students launch churches – but to help prepare servant leaders who can faithfully shepherd Christ’s people for decades to come.
